Coming Together to Raise Achievement: New Assessments for the Common Core State Standards

July 2011 (Prior version February 2011)

This guide, developed by the K–12 Center at ETS, will answer many of the questions you may have concerning the standards. It will also provide a more in-depth description of the two assessment Consortia, The Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) and The SMARTER Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC).

The updated guide also contains summaries of the designs of the two Consortia assessment systems, including the recent changes to the PARCC design, as well as both of the Consortia's plans for supporting states and districts as they transition to the Common Core State Standards.

The information provided within the guide regarding the PARCC assessment system has been approved by the Consortium. The information provided within the guide regarding the SBAC assessment system was developed by the K–12 Center and has not been formally approved by the Consortium.
