The Edmund Hmieleski, Jr. Early Childhood Center is an excellent example of Perth Amboy’s commitment to Early Childhood Education. This school is a state of the art facility which was designed and constructed specifically for preschool education. The Hmieleski Center will house over 450 3 and 4 year old pre-schoolers.
Our preschools continue to receive state and national recognition for quality programming. In September the National Institute for Early Education Research will be bringing a delegation of 25 international Early Childhood Education experts to visit and observe Early Childhood Education in Perth Amboy. With the opening of this Center our preschool population, district wide, will exceed 1,350 students.
It is also fitting that this Center will be named after Edmund Hmieleski, Jr. Mr. Hmieleski served as President of our Board of Education for over ten years. I had the good fortune of working with “Ed” from my first day in the district in 1975. Ed loved the children of Perth Amboy and strove to provide them with an ever improving school system. His dedication to the city and its children was foremost in his life.
