Winter Break - Don't let the learning stop!
Posted by DEBRA MONGIELLO on 12/18/2012 5:00:00 PM
Winter break is almost here! It's a good time to relax, visit friends and family, and have lots of fun. Don't forget to keep your brain well fed! The Kinder Kids have learned so much since September! But remember: Skills not practiced at home will soon be forgotten. I can't wait to get started again on January 2nd in the classroom! I hope all my Kinder Kids are ready to pick up where we left off. Eleven days without school. Yikes! Keep up the learning at home.
- Read every day with your child
- Unleash the writer in your child - label things in the house, write stories, write about vacation
- It all adds up - adding and subtracting within 10. Make it fun. Make a game of it.
- Rhyme Time - you say a word, they give you a rhyming word. Then let them give you a word to rhyme. Can you trick them? Does it or doesn't it rhyme?
- Zombies - limit screen time. TV, video games, and computer time - less is best!
- Ask questions. Why? How do you know? Encourage them to ask questions. Be curious!
- Talk, talk, talk! Extra points for "big, fancy" words. Marvelous!
- Baby it's Cold Outside - explore "winter". What do you know about seasons and snowflakes?
- Have fun! People, big and small, learn what's fun and interesting to them.
Have a great Winter Break. Enjoy!
