• Welcome to the Dr. H.N. Richardson School.  My name is Mrs. El-Maraghy and I have been teaching in the Perth Amboy School District for the past 20 years. For 16 of those years I had been teaching 4th grade at the Dr. H.N. Richardson School (formerly School #10) and have taught Kindergarten at School #7 for 1 year. I have also done math intervention and was a district Math Specialist. Prior to coming to Perth Amboy I taught at St. James School in Woodbridge where I taught math for grades 5-8.
I earned my undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance and Economics and received my teaching license in 2000. I earned my Master's Degree in Mathematical Foundations from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2007 and in 2015 I completed my requirements for my Educational Supervisor's Certification. My goals in the next couple of years is to complete my second Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and then pursue a doctorate in Humane Education.
As my former students will tell you, math and science are my passion. I enjoy connecting real life experiences to everything we do in the classroom. I am also a very firm believer in "giving back" to the community. In the past my students have visited the Perth Amboy Animal Shelter, along with their parents, on Saturdays to plant flowers and to assist with photos during the holidays. They have also given up their recess time to learn to crochet and have donated the crocheted blankets they made to the animal shelter. This type of learning experience helps to apply concepts learned in the classroom, along with teaching civic responsibility, and shows my students that even at a young age they can make a difference in this world. Even though we will be learning remotely, at least for the for the time being, we can still work together to give back to others.
In my personal time I also enjoy volunteering and giving back to my community and am currently an officer for Garden State German Shepherd Rescue and am an advisor for Archangel Raphael's Mission - a"non-profit" that works to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. I also make quilts through Quilts for Kids, a nonprofit that makes quilts to donate to children in traumatic situations or in hospitals. I have also sewn pillowcases for Ryan's Case for Smiles. This is also a nonprofit organization that donates homemade pillowcases to children undergoing cancer treatment. Since April of this year I have been sewing scrub caps for frontline workers and have sewn masks for NJ Sews in Unity - a group that is providing masks to nonprofits and those who cannot afford them. I am proud to be a part of this special group of sewers. Since the pandemic began they have donated close to 23,000 masks and we're still going strong. I am married and have one son who is the director of Archangel Raphael's Mission. My hobbies are crocheting, quilting, sewing, baking and cake decorating - oh, and traveling as well, especially to the Caribbean. I love animals and advocate on their behalf and instill in my students a respect for all living things. I have recently joined an Best Friends Animal Society's Action Teams to work toward finding homes for all adoptable pets.
In 2015 I was honored to be chosen as the Middlesex County Governor's Teacher of the Year and was very proud to represent the wonderful educators in Perth Amboy and throughout the county.
