Welcome!
I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and give you the best ways to contact me if you have any questions.
My name is John Gordon and this is my Sixth year as a proud member of the Perth Amboy Faculty and my Sixteenth year as an educator. This year, I am one of your children's teachers. I began my career as a Pre-Kindergarten aide and swimming teacher at a private school in Long Branch, NJ. After graduating from Monmouth University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in History, Political Science, and Secondary Social Studies with Honors, I created an afterschool and summer theatre program at Seashore Day Camp. The camp grew from 16 performers to over 100 children ages 7-17 from all over Monmouth County performing on stage and running backstage. When I was not directing, producing, or doing work towards my thesis, I was an Assistant Varsity Swim Coach for Ocean Township High School from 2008-2013. I had the great pride of accompanying our Boys and Girls Varsity teams to New Jersey States each year that I was a part of the coaching staff. My position running the theatre program allowed me to continue my Post Secondary Education and I earned my Masters of Education in Curriculum Studies at Monmouth University. My research was centered on creating an optimal learning environment for students by infusing the arts into the environment. I presented my work in Akron, Ohio and Decatur, Georgia as a part of the Annual Curriculum and Pedagogy Conference, and I was a founding member of the Mid-Atlantic Curriculum Studies group working with Tenured Professors from New York, New Jersey, & Pennsylvania. One of my core beliefs as a teacher is that to be effective we must always be learning, so in line with my beliefs after Graduating with a Masters of Education Degree, I became a Paraprofessional in Middletown and enrolled for my second Masters Degree to become a Teacher of Students with Disabilities. Since then, I have had several different experiences working as a Kindergarten teacher in South Brunswick, Middle School In Class Support teacher in Hazlet, High School In Class Support teacher in Hazlet and Academy Charter School in Lake Como. In 2018, I found my home in Perth Amboy. I proudly worked at Shull Middle School for the last 6 years and am transitioning to a new building this school year.
My goal is to help all of your students succeed this year! If there is anything you need please do not hesitate to reach out to me by email. I check it up until 7 pm and I will respond to emails if I can over the weekend.
If there are any problems please email me at JOHNGORDON@PAPS.NET. You can also call me on my Google Voice account at (973) 531-7085 Monday - Friday between 8:01- 6:30 and I will get back to you as soon as I can .
It is my pleasure to meet you, and I look forward to seeing you at Parent Teacher Conferences.
