2020 Comprehensive Health and P.E. Social and Sexual Health

    Welcome to the Flynn School Physical Education and Health page!

     
    We are so excited to see your child in our class this year. As you can see from our picture, we like to have fun! Pictured from left to right are Mr. Marcus, Mrs. Babyak, Mrs. Kerner and Mr. Campion.
     
    The topics that we will be covering in physical education will include team and individual sports, lifetime fitness, locomotor skills and cooperation games. Please be mindful to have your child wear sneakers on the days that they have physical education. Please leave the jewelry at home. This includes necklaces or chains, bracelets, rings and wiggily earrings. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter as we try to keep everyone safe during class. 
     
    For our health classes, we will be covering wellness, communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, tobacco, vaping, alcohol, drugs and some anatomy. For a complete list of the topics, please see the curriculum and the new standards for health.

  • Student Opt Out Procedures

    According to N.J.S.A. 18A:35-4.7 “The NJDOE recognizes and respects that some families prefer to have these conversations privately. Any child whose parent or guardian presents to the school a signed statement that any part of instruction in health, family life education, or sex education is in conflict with his or her conscience or sincerely held moral or religious beliefs shall be excused from that portion of the course. Parents and guardians seeking to exercise this option should contact their local school principal directly.” 

    If a parent would like to opt their child out of receiving the Social and Sexual Health lessons, they must complete and sign the Perth Amboy Public Schools Department of Health and Physical Education Family Life/Sex Education Opt Out Form. The form must be returned to the building principal. To download the opt-out request form, please click below as it applies to your child’s grade level. 

    If a parent would like to opt their child out of receiving Health lessons other than Social and Sexual Health, they must complete and sign the Perth Amboy Public Schools Health Education Opt Out Form. The form must be returned to the building principal.
