    EXPECTATIONS 2019-2020

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the 2019-2010 school year!

To further assist students in achieving their ultimate goal of becoming better writers/readers, the students are expected to have their core novel books with them at all times.   Students should be reading at home, each night, for at least 20-30 minutes. Writing instruction is a process and it will enable students to work on individual goals aimed at improving their skills.  Grammar is also included in our program.

    GRADING

Grades will be broken down into three categories:

    Assessment/projects 60%

    Classwork/participation 35%

    Homework 5%

It is important that students complete their assigned homework, as it is an extension of the lessons learned each

day.  Homework also helps the students to be able to earn the highest grade possible.

    ABSENCE FROM CLASS

Students who are absent from class must obtain the materials missed.  It is the student’s responsibility to get the work they missed by asking a teacher and/or classmate.  Make-up work will be equivalent to the number of days missed. If a student is going to be absent for an extended period of time, please call the school to have the work sent home.

    HOMEWORK and PREPARATION

Students should come to school prepared each day.  Students should bring their composition notebook (ISN), agenda, pen/pencil and their core novel books.

    INTERACTIVE STUDENT NOTEBOOKS

Interactive student notebooks (ISNs) will be checked periodically and will be given an assessment grade.

    EXTRA HELP

I am always available during lunch for extra help as long as it is arranged in advance.  It is the student’s responsibility to arrange this with their teachers.

    ***ROUTINES:

STUDENTS MUST ARRIVE TO CLASS ON TIME UNLESS THEY HAVE A PASS

    1st late = warning, 2nd late = lunch detention, 3rd late = referral to Administration/VP

    CELL PHONES

Cell phones are not permitted in class because it has and will cause disruptions.  There will be times when the cell phones will be allowed in class for lessons which require the use of cell phones.  I will give ample notice when it is appropriate to bring cell phones to class.

    LEAVING THE CLASSROOM ROUTINE

Students should not leave the classroom until they are dismissed or permission has been granted.

NO FOOD IS ALLOWED IN CLASS

Students may not eat food, or drink soda and/or juice, in class.  Students may, however

bring bottled WATER to class.  Eating and drinking can become disruptive and takes away from instruction time.
