The Perth Amboy Public School District, located in the City of Perth Amboy, is a historic 4.5 square-mile municipality resting along the shores of the beautiful Raritan Bay in Middlesex County. Our district provides a comprehensive and rigorous education for more than 10,000 students in Grades Pre-K through 12.
The District operates three Early Childhood Centers, five Elementary Schools (Grades K-4), two Middle Schools (Grades 5-8), one High School comprised of three programs: 1) The Comprehensive 10th-12th grade Liberal Arts program at the Main Campus; 2) The Freshmen Program at the East and South Campuses, and 3) the program at the Education Center.
Our District is currently focusing on several learning initiatives to ensure that each of our students develops a life-long love of learning and is provided with the college and career readiness skills that will enable them to become productive members of our community.
The student body within the Perth Amboy School District is predominantly Spanish speaking. To meet the needs and learning styles of its students, The District offers a unique blend of educational settings and programs not found in most school districts. Some of unique programs include Bilingual, Dual Language, ESL, and Adult Education.
The Perth Amboy School District believes that family engagement is an important part of a child’s education. It is crucial to their success inside and out of the classroom. Through communication and outreach, the District strives to provide families with information and resources to assist their children. A District Health Clinic is available several days each week to assist families with general medical needs such as vaccinations and physicals.
More than 80% of Perth Amboy High School students are economically disadvantaged and 24% are English Language Learners. Despite these challenges, our students experience success both inside and beyond the classroom. Upon graduation, Perth Amboy High School students have a long and distinguished history of success in two-year colleges, four-year colleges, all branches of the military, and the work force. Over the past few years, our graduates have gained admission to a growing number of prestigious colleges and universities that include Princeton University, Brown University, Rutgers University, Drew University, The College of New Jersey, Seton Hall University, George Washington University, Fordham University, New York University, Pennsylvania State University, New York University, St. John's University, the University of Maryland, University of Miami, West Virginia University among others.
As testimony to the collective commitment to a quality public education, state, county, and local officials recently joined forces with board of education members to broker the building of a new high school for the children of Perth Amboy. This state-of the-art school will be more than 500,000 square feet and will house a robust program for more than 2,800 students. It is slated for completion by 2022. The new Seaman Avenue Elementary School, which will serve approximately 800 students, is also currently in the design phase and should be completed in time to open its doors for the 2019-2020 school year.
The Perth Amboy School District believes that a dynamic program of student activities is vital to the educational development of the student. Athletics, Music, and the Arts play an important part in the life of Perth Amboy High School. Lessons in creativity, self-expression, sportsmanship, teamwork, and competition are integral parts of our program.
