Hello, my name is Mr. Edgardo Vazquez.
Currently, I am an 8th-grade Social Studies teacher at the William C. McGinnis Middle School. Growing up in an urban city was not easy, especially when you are raised by a single parent, just as I was by my mom. Unfortunately, my father passed away when I was 14 years old. Life at home was certainly not easy. Although I had to go through this situation, this did not stop me from becoming a leader in different ways. I joined the student council, chorus, and different clubs in school. I helped out in various activities and school functions. I also became involved in my church parish as a youth group member, and eventually as a youth leader. Thankfully through my mom's encouragement and guidance as well, I am the person that I am today, an educational leader. Once I graduated from Perth Amboy High School in 1995, I attended Kean University and worked part-time. On May 9, 2002, I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in History. From there I became a 7th and 8th grade Social Studies teacher at McGinnis from 2002-2005. In 2005 I was transferred to PAHS to teach 9th-grade bilingual Social Studies for the 2005-2006 school year. In 2006 I taught 6th-grade bilingual level 2 at the Samuel E. Shull Middle School for the 2006-2007 school year. In 2007 I returned to McGinnis to teach 6th grade Language Arts and Social Studies for 1 year, and 8th Grade Social Studies in the alternative program in 2008. From 2009 until 2012, I taught 5th grade Math and Science. From the 2012-2015 school year, for 5th grade, I was asked to rejoin the Language Arts and Social Studies team again. Then from 2015-2018, I taught 6th grade Social Studies, ancient civilization. From 2018-2022, I taught 7th grade Social Studies which is a continuation of an ancient civilization. This year, for the 2022-2023 school, I will be teaching 8th Social Studies which consists of U.S. Civics and U.S. Hisotry. I have also been part of various leadership committees and programs at McGinnis over the years.
I have received my Master of Art in Educational Leadership and Principal License from Jones International University in Centennial, Colorado. Currently, I am working on my Doctoral degree in Education at Northcentral University. I will be the first in my entire family to receive a doctoral degree. My ultimate goal is to become an educational leader who will continue to prepare students to become positive leaders themselves, no matter who they are, where they come from, or what living situation they find themselves in. I also want to assist in preparing teachers and educators to present the best possible instruction that will have their students actively engaged at all times. Each school year is a new year filled with excitement. A person makes their education what they want to get out of it, they reach a certain goal for themselves. For this reason, I know and firmly believe that all students can build strong characters, and all students can behave appropriately.
I am extremely excited and looking forward to working with the students, parents, and community to cpntinue to foster a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.
