Ti Moune, a peasant girl, rescues and falls in love with a wealthy boy on the island. The gods who watch over the island, make a bet to see if the power of love or death is stronger, putting Ti Moune's life at stake. Although the wealthier people shun her for being of a lower class, her impact transgresses over time in order to breakdown the discrimination that separates the people in the society.
