Transition Services at Perth Amboy provide students with opportunities for a smooth transition from school to postsecondary education or to an employment outcome for students with disabilities. Students explore career awareness, career exploration and career preparation through a series of classroom and community-based activities. An understanding of the world of work and the knowledge and skills needed for traditional and non-traditional jobs and careers are discussed. Students practice and improve workplace readiness skills through work-based learning experiences in competitive, integrated work settings. Post-secondary training options, industry-recognized credentials, and meaningful post-secondary employment are the focus of instruction. Students participate in self-assessments, personal interest inventories, as well as functional math and reading exercises. Social-emotional behavior and activities for inter-dependent daily living skills such as travel training, community service, basic meal preparation, household tasks, shopping, utilizing community resources and physical recreation are included. Post-secondary education options such as community college, university, certificate programs and continuing education are also covered.
